Fourth annual hands-on competition to offer cash prizes, recognition for winning entries

Las Vegas, NV—Local writers residing in Clark County are invited to participate in FLASH! The Short, Short Fiction Contest, an annual pre-festival event of the Vegas Valley Book Festival. Cash prizes of $500, $250 and $100 will be awarded.

Writers can register online at www.vegasvalleybookfestival.org now through July 31. The project is limited to the first 30 writers who apply for the contest. There is no fee to participate.

The hands-on writing competition will be held on Saturday, September 21, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. in the large conference room of the Clark County Library, 1401 E. Flamingo Road. Entrants will have 90 minutes to complete a maximum 500-word short story based on a theme provided to them just before the contest begins. Writers may bring their own laptops; flash drives will be provided. Legible hand-written copies will also be accepted.

A panel of four judges from the professional Las Vegas writing community will determine the winners, who will be announced at a later date. Winning stories will also be posted on the Vegas Valley Book Festival website and the first place story will be published in Las Vegas CityLife. Winners will be given the opportunity to read their stories at the Festival on November 2, 2013.
